Sauros laughed, " He is not solicitous of your welfare, Warrior,. He is solicitous, rather, of the honor of Tyros. Little would please Chenbar more than to meet you with daggers on the fighting circle of Tyros. He owes you much, a defeat, and chains and a dungeon, and he has a long memory, my Ubar. No, he is not solicitous of your welfare. If anything, he wants you well and strong, that he may meet you evenly, with cold steel."

Tyros is one of the two main Island Ubarates of the Western Thassa, and is a rocky region located about 100 pasangs south of the Island of Cos and about 400 pasangs to the west of Port Kar and the Vosk Delta. Tyros is not a singles city but an Ubarate unto itself, consisting of the cites of Tentium and Kasra as well as several other smaller villages, smaller settlements, and several tributary islands in the northern archipelago.
Kasra is the capitol city of the Ubarate. Tentium is slightly smaller. Tentium is the smaller of the two main cities located on Tyros being situated on the South Western side of the island. Directly to the South West of the city, in the middle of the ocean, lies a giant maelstrom in which the wreckage of ships are frequently found.
Tyros is best known for her proud sailors and ocean going military forces. Tyros is ruled by the Ubar Henrius Sevarius. Despite the relatively small size and unfertile aspect of the island, Tyros has developed quite a reputation as a major seaborne power. Her fleets are rivaled only by those of Cos to the north and Port Kar to the east. Because of this ample trade with coastal ports as far south as Schendi and Anango and as far north as Hunjer and Skjern. Tyros, along with Cos, is currently allied with the coastal trade city of Brundisium and uses that port as an anchorage for its various trading fleets and flotillas.
Several years ago (in 1970, to be exact; Gorean date 10,130 Contasta Ar) the Ubarates of Cos and Tyros fought a war with the fleets of Port Kar for control of the Tamber Gulf and were defeated. Since that time an uneasy truce has existed between all three forces, though Tyros remains allied with Cos and some of her troops were presumably part of the invasion force which successfully conquered the city of Ar in 10,130 Contasta Ar. The final result of that war, and the success of the freedom fighters of Ar to free their city from the ravages of foreign rule, have not been disclosed at this time (Look for book #26, Witness of Gor, to be published later this year, for updates on the saga of Ar vs. Cos).
Tyros is known to be ruled by an elite militocracy comprised of several great families of psuedo-nobilty who retain their power via familial lines. The island of Tyros is known for its hillside vineyards which produce Ta-grapes for use in the production of Ta-Wine. Unique to the island of Tyros is the practice of raising and training Varts, a winged creature similar to a bat, for use both for hunting smaller airborne game and, occasionally, as a weapon to be used against human adversaries. The trained Varts of Tyros are famous for their ferocity and are known throughout Gor.
The primary color worn by men of Tyros (aside from caste colors), and the color which graces their flags and banners, is bright yellow.
